Video: The Road From Karakol

Alpinist Kyle Dempster set out across Kyrgyzstan’s back roads on his bike with a trailer full of climbing gear. He spent two months pedalling and pushing the bike more than 1200km on roads of variable states of neglect, wading through wild rivers, dealing with corrupt military checkpoint staff, and soloing a handful of unclimbed alpine rock and mixed routes.

I remember watching this film just before I cycled into Kyrgyzstan. Cyclists moving the opposite way through Central Asia had relayed so many amazing stories of the mountains, the landscapes and the people of Kyrgyzstan. At the time this film only solidified my expectations.

In the end, I certainly wasn’t disappointed with Kyrgyzstan; it remains one of my favourite countries in the world!
