WHEN?

I started CyclingAbout in 2011 for two reasons.

Firstly, I found there were some really big knowledge gaps for technical information about touring bikes and gear on the internet. I was also about to embark on a 2.5-year bicycle touring adventure spanning over 30-countries, and I wanted a way to share my travel experiences and things I learned from the road.

WHY?

Bicycle travel provides a rich sensory experience all day, every day, where you become completely immersed in the environment around you. There is no hiding from the world as your senses are saturated: hearing birds rejoicing in the trees, smelling lunch cooking on a roadside stall, tasting the salt dripping from your brow, feeling big raindrops soaking your skin and seeing the sun setting over the horizon. Bikes reconnect you with the world.

Bikes also break down barriers: you’re instantly innocent and approachable to everybody. You will extract physical and mental stimulation from the riding experience, discovering how capable and self-reliant you can be. You will meet people and learn about cultures along the way. These memories, experiences and friendships will be lifelong.

WHERE?

I’m travelling all over the globe! Over the next few years, I’ll be cycling through South America, North America and Africa.
